What is eSIM?

eSIM (or embedded SIM) is a programmatic SIM card for your cellular device. Instead of inserting a physical SIM card chip into your device, eSIM uses a software based approach to store the SIM card data directly within your device.

Just like a physical SIM card, this eSIM contains the data (including your phone number) to identify & authenticate you (as the subscriber) to the cellular network. Without a physical SIM card or eSIM, your device will be unable to connect to the cellular network.

Which iPhone's support eSIM?

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and later models all support eSIM. Ensure that your device is running iOS 12.1 or later to take advantage of eSIM.

For 5G support using eSIM you will need an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, or later model. Ensure that your device is running iOS 14.5 or later to use eSIM with 5G.
